With fall well underway it’s important to take a moment and check in with yourself. Recognize the way you feel mentally, spiritually, and physically and attend to those needs. As the holiday season is fast approaching it’s often easy to get swept away in the hustle and bustle which can leave you feeling drained. Let’s take a look at some ways you can incorporate self-care into your routine.

Fall Self Care

Get Moving

Tons of research has been conducted to support that moving your body can in fact decrease feelings of anxiety and depression. With cooler temperatures approaching, try going on a walk first thing in the morning. Establishing a routine that you can stick to is imperative. Move your body in a way that works for you!

Fall Activities

Partake in fun fall activities that will increase your serotonin levels. Getting into the spirit of the holiday can be sure to boost your mood. A few examples here:

-Visit a pumpkin patch

-Go to a fall festival

-Visit the farmer’s market

-Go for a Hay Ride

-Hike in the fall foliage

Listen to your body

Since the pandemic, so many of us are facing burnout. It’s important to listen to our bodies and allow ourselves ample time to rest and recharge. Ensure you are getting proper sleep each night, and resting when needed.

Set Boundaries

It’s very important to set personal boundaries that allow you to feel in control of your time and your effort. During the holidays there are often many traditions and obligations that can lead you to feel pulled in several directions. Determine what your priorities are and allow yourself to schedule around that.

Declutter your home

For many, our physical surroundings can impact our mental state. Fall is a great time to de-clutter and re-arrange your surroundings. If you have a room with excess clutter, make it easy. Sort items into, “trash” “keep” and “donate” so that you can work on it for a little bit at a time and feel accomplished. Having a serene space where you can relax is very important for mental health.
